WHO WE ARE
The Our HBCUs Matter Foundation, Inc. traces its roots back to 2015 when Brandon M. Graham, a former high school educator within Atlanta Public Schools, recognized the challenges his students faced in continuing their education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Witnessing firsthand the barriers preventing his students from accessing higher education opportunities, Graham was inspired to take action. With the support of other HBCU alumni educators who shared his passion for empowering students, he founded the Our HBCUs Matter Foundation, Inc.
From its inception, the organization was driven by a commitment to providing guidance, support, and a sense of family for students embarking on their journey to college. Recognizing the transformative potential of HBCUs in shaping the lives of young people, the foundation sought to break down barriers and create pathways to success for students of color.
Since its humble beginnings, the Our HBCUs Matter Foundation, Inc. has experienced remarkable growth and impact. Over the years, the organization has expanded its reach to impact over 10,000 students across the United States. Through a variety of programs and initiatives, such as the My HBCU Matters Scholars Program for HBCU students and the Future of HBCUs Matter Scholar Program for high school students, the foundation has worked tirelessly to empower the next generation of leaders through its programmatic efforts.
